A Bend homeless man was arrested after unlawfully entering a residence early Monday, but not before a resident fired a warning shot. Bend Police were called to the 700 block of NE 4th Street  Monday at 4:53 a.m. and detained the suspect who was still inside the residence.

According to Bend PD: Officers determined that a resident at the property had encountered the suspect in the backyard. The intruder did not have permission to be on the property. The resident told him to leave, but instead the suspect entered the home.

The resident, who was armed with a handgun, again told the intruder to leave. The suspect verbally threatened the resident and began moving toward him. The resident fired one round in the intruder’s direction, which the resident described as a warning shot. Sanchez was not injured and remained inside the residence until police arrived. Drug impairment was believed to be a factor in this event.
